Have a look at the process at studio MAARIS
Following the traditional idea of a quilt some of the Studio MAARIS quilts are made from recycled textiles. The amount of recycled fabrics that is used can vary per product. It depends on the amount of fabric I have of a certain color or the size of the quilt. For the throws it's hard to find large pieces of fabric so they're usually made out of new fabrics. The wadding that is used for the quilts is never recycled and is therefore always new.
Working with recycled textiles has been the foundation of Studio MAARIS. It's one of the reasons I started quilting. Treasure hunting on flea markets or thrift shops is one of my favorite things to do. Every time I went shopping I saw such beautiful and inspiring fabrics. The urge of creating something with these textiles grew bigger and bigger so I started collecting them.
Working with recycled textiles is a sustainability aspect but it has also become a design tool for me. I often start my design process with having a look at the colors I've collected. What colors do I have and how much fabric do I have of each color. Based on that I start making interesting color combinations. When I feel I miss something or I want to create a certain mood/ feeling I can always decide to buy fabric in the fabric shop.
Please have a look at the products in my shop to see how how much recycled fabrics is used.
